A Big Fine Thing The Southside Aces' latest album, A Big Fine Thing, is a collection of 17 songs, beginning in the early 20th century, and spanning all the way to the 21st: from Duke Ellington's "Diga Diga Doo," to Amy Winehouse's "Back to Black." "New Orleans classic jazz is in good hands with the Southside Aces, a splendid band that delivers sounds that are steeped in a century of tradition, yet never seem less than fresh. Its new CD, "A Big Fine Thing," lives up to its title with a generous 17 songs, great arrangements by clarinet wizard Tony Balluff, possibly the least expected Amy Winehouse cover ever ('Back to Black'), tasty solos everywhere you turn your ear, and Erik Jacobson's always juicy sousaphone laying down a big fat bottom. -Tom Surowicz, Star Tribune Listen to, purchase and/or download at Bandcamp. |

All Aboard! The Southside Aces' debut CD, All Aboard! released on Mardi Gras Day of 2005, displayed the band in its live form. With material taken from two live shows in the city of Minneapolis, the album served to announce the Aces' arrival on the local traditional jazz scene. Available in limited number, the CD has unfortunately sold out. At long last, however, it is available again in downloadable form at Bandcamp! |
